Adaptation of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s short story

Aashiq Abu’s ‘Neelavelicham’ is an adaptation of the veteran writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s short story by the same name. The story depicts a compassionate relationship between a talented novelist and the spirit of a charming lady who was unfortunately murdered. The short story was first published in a special annual edition of the Malayalam daily named ‘Prabhatham’.

Aashiq Abu’s first horror film

The young and talented director Aashiq Abu has ventured into different genres such as comedy, action, drama, and even a medical thriller. ‘Neelavelicham’ will mark the director’s first attempt at the horror genre and looking at the successful track record of Aashiq Abu it's beyond doubt that the film will be a pure cinematic genius.

Major cast changes

Aashiq Abu initially announced the project with the actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Soubin Shahir, and Kunchacko Boban. Due to the pandemic issue and date clashes, the cast is now changed to Tovino Thomas, Roshan Mathew, and Shine Tom Chacko. Rima Kallingal will be playing a major female lead in the film.

‘Bhargavi Nilayam’- First Malayalam horror film

The veteran writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s ‘Neelavelicham’ was first visualized as a film by the name ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’ starring actors Prem Nazir, Madhu, and Vijaya Nirmala. The film directed by A Vincent marks the first horror film in Malayalam and was a humongous hit during the time it was released in the year 1964.
