‘Never said Dileep’s films should fail': Dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi files DGP complaint over fake news
Actress and veteran dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi has approached the Director General of Police (DGP) with a formal complaint against an online media outlet for circulating fake news using her name and photograph.
As reported by Manorama Online, according to her complaint, the outlet allegedly shared posts on social media platforms carrying the statement, “Not a single film acted by Dileep will succeed; we will not allow it to succeed,” alongside her image. Bhagyalakshmi stated that the quote was falsely attributed to her and spread without her consent, forcing her to seek legal intervention.
Clarifying her stand, Bhagyalakshmi said in the Instagram video that she has been associated with the Malayalam film industry for the past 51 years and has never held or expressed such an opinion. In the complaint submitted to the DGP, she stated, “I have never had such an intention, nor would I ever make such a statement.” She further expressed suspicion that the fake news was deliberately created to misrepresent her social interventions and provoke fans of actor Dileep into targeting her with abuse. Seeking firm action, she requested authorities to initiate strict measures against the online media outlet responsible for spreading the false information.
Earlier, Bhagyalakshmi had also released a video on social media, publicly refuting the viral claim. In the video, she said, “I have not posted anything like this, and I am not foolish enough to post such a thing.” Stressing her position as a film industry professional, she added, “Cinema is not the private property of one individual; it is a field where more than a hundred people work together. I would never say that a film should fail.” She further clarified that choosing not to watch a film is a personal decision and should not be misinterpreted as wishing for its failure. Questioning the intent behind the post, she asked why her photograph and name were being used merely to gain online reach, and asserted, “If I have anything to say to the public, I have the courage to say it directly, looking people in the eye.”
