Tovino Thomas’ career is only eight years old but what stands out is that the actor has not repeated himself. In his next film Ente Ummante Peru, the actor will be seen playing a Malabar youth for the first time.
On the movie, its debutant director
Jose Sebastian tells us, “In a nutshell, it’s the journey of Tovino’s character Hamid. It’s a coming-of-age comedy drama and also has
Urvashi ma’am playing a major character.”
Newbie
Saipriya, who had done a few ad films before, plays the lead actress in the movie, which is set entirely in Malabar.
“We are almost through with the shooting. The main locations were Thalassery, Ponnani and Kozhikode,” says Jose who had co-scripted the film with Sarath R Nath.
Tovino’s past few films including Tharangam, Maradona and Theevandi have been helmed by newcomers. Is that the reason why Jose, who had entered the industry assisting in a few projects, approached the actor to play the lead? “Hamid is a very simple and grounded youth, and the movie has a tinge of humour. I had the story in mind while I was studying in film school back in 2012 and had approached Tovino in 2016. Now having directed him in this project, I can say it’s effortless working with him, not just for the director but everyone in the sets. As a lead actor, he gives space to everybody to air their suggestions as well and that creates a comfort level,” says the director.
Harish Kanaran, Siddique, Dileesh Pothan, Mammukoya and Shanti Krishna are also part of the cast of the film, which is expected to hit theatres this year.
