Thalapathy fans are finding it hard to accept the news that Vijay’s farewell film 'Jana Nayagan' will not release on January 9, 2026. The film, directed by H Vinoth, has run into censor issues. Because of this, the big Pongal release plan has changed. Many fans were waiting for this date for a long time. The delay created confusion and disappointment. At the same time, it opened space in theatres just before the festival season.
'Pennu Case' takes the open slot
Soon after the 'Jana Nayagan' delay news spread the makers of the Malayalam film 'Pennu Case' made a surprise move. The Nikhila Vimal-starrer was earlier set to release on January 16, 2026. Now, it will hit theatres on January 10, 2026. Paid premieres will start from January 9. The makers shared a new poster and wrote, "The case will be heard earlier. Worldwide release on January 10. Paid premieres from January 9th." The sudden change caught attention because there were no big Malayalam releases planned for that weekend.

'Pennu Case' is directed by Febin Sidharth. The film also stars Aju Varghese, Hakim Shahjahan, Ramesh Pisharody, and Irshad Ali. The makers have not shared the reason behind the early release decision.
Earlier, two big Tamil films were planned around Pongal. One was 'Jana Nayagan' and the other was Sivakarthikeyan’s 'Parasakthi'. With uncertainty around 'Jana Nayagan', 'Pennu Case' has now stepped in early.
