Now people know me by my name: Tovino

Actor Tovino Thomas is receiving positive reviews for his role as a gym instructor in the recently released You Too Brutus, which saw him exploring his funny side for the first time on screen. The actor says, “Initially, I was nervous. I knew that if my comic timing is not correct, the character will be a flop. I do crack jokes with my friends and cousins, but directors used to shy away from giving me humorous roles.However, Roopesh believed in me and Sreeniettan (actor Sreenivasan) encouraged me throughout the film.”
The movie also saw the director retaining Tovino’s real name for the character. “That was indeed a blessing. Though I’m four films old, people have not started recognizing me. Even producers and directors describe the roles I’ve played to identify me, as they don’t know my name. However, things have changed after the release of this film. Now people know me by my name,” says Tovino, who has not watched the film yet as he is busy with the shoot of his next.
Meanwhile, Tovino has completed the shoot of Abi Varghese’s untitled film with Fahadh Faasil in the lead in the US. Speaking about his role, he says, “It is a guest role but what attracted me is the subject and the team. There were only a few Malayalis, and the rest of the team was from the US itself. It was a good experience altogether.”
Though the shoot was only for four days, Tovino took the opportunity to travel around the US. “It was a good break for me. I could relive my bachelor days,” says Tovino with a laugh.
The actor will soon resume the shoot of Prithviraj-starrer Ennu Ninte Moideen, an intense love story helmed by RS Vimal.
