On Prithviraj Sukumaran's birthday, 5 reasons why he is a multi-talented star

Pan India star Prithviraj Sukumaran celebrates his 40th birthday today! In an illustrious career spanning two decades, Prithviraj has proved his mettle in various departments of filmmaking, emerging as one of the biggest superstars of the Malayalam film industry while also making his mark in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films.

As Prithviraj rings on his birthday, here are 5 things that make him a multi-hyphenate polymath.

Ace Actor

The talented performer has acted in 120+ films in his career, from commercial hits to critical favorites. He's the recipient of a National Film Award (for ‘Indian Rupee’, 2011), three Kerala State Awards, and numerous other prestigious awards. Prithviraj made his debut with the much-loved Nandanam in 2002 and has continuously entertained fans. Some of his recent hits include ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (2020), ‘Jana Gana Mana’ (2022), and many more.

Visionary Director

Prithviraj is not only a celebrated actor but also an accomplished director. He made his directorial debut with the Mohanlal-starrer political action thriller Lucifer (2019), which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. It is also the only Malayalam film ever to breach the coveted 200-crore club. Following its success, Prithviraj directed Mohanlal and himself again in the hugely entertaining comedy-drama Bro Daddy (2022). Moving forward, Prithviraj is helming the much-awaited sequel to Lucifer titled L2: Empuraan and the social thriller Tyson.

Playback Singer and Voice Actor

A lesser-known fact about Prithviraj is that he is a gifted musician and playback singer. He has voiced memorable tracks like 'Kaane Kaane' (from Puthiya Mukham, 2009), 'Kaattu Paranjathum' (Thanthonni, 2010), 'Kettille Kettille' (Pokkiri Raja, 2010), 'Vadakku Vadakku' (Urumi, 2011), 'Ivide' (Ivide, 2015), 'Premamennaal' (Amar Akbar Anthony, 2015), 'Adakachakko (Ayyappanum Koshiyum, 2020), 'Lokam – Who Wants it' (Bhramam, 2021), 'Thathaka Theithare' (Hridayam, 2022) and many more. Prithviraj also dubbed for Arya's character in the historical epic ‘Urumi’ (2011).

Star Producer

Prithviraj formed his production company in 2017 with his wife Supriya Menon. Their debut production was the first-of-its-kind science fiction horror film 9 (2019). This was followed by other unique and clutter-breaking ventures like ‘Driving Licence’, ‘Kuruthi’ (Manu Warrier's directorial debut), ‘Jana Gana Mana’, and ‘Kaduva’. The company's upcoming films include Kumari and Gold and their first Hindi co-production ‘Selfiee’ (‘Driving Licence’ remake). Prithviraj’s production company has also distributed successful big-ticket films like ‘Petta’, ‘Bigi’l, ‘83’, and ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’ in Malayalam.

Crossover Icon

Prithviraj has not limited his oeuvre to one language or industry but ventured out to Bollywood, Kollywood, and Tollywood films. He made his Hindi film debut opposite Rani Mukerji in Aiyaa (2012). He also appeared in the Bollywood films 'Aurangzeb' (2012) and 'Naam Shabana' (2017). Prithviraj has also starred in a host of Tamil and Telugu films.
