'Patriot' Women's Day 2026 new poster: Revathy joins the fight with Mammootty and Mohanlal amid Kerala theatre boycott

The makers of the upcoming Malayalam film 'Patriot' released a new poster on the occasion of International Women's Day and it features veteran actor Revathy. Apart from the looks of the poster, one major highlight is that it also confirms that the film will arrive in theatres on April 23, 2026.

Director Mahesh Narayanan shares the poster

Director Mahesh Narayanan took to social media to unveil the new poster featuring Revathy and announce the film's release timeline. Sharing the poster, Mahesh Narayanan wrote, “Revathi in Patriot In Cinemas Worldwide from April 23 , 2026.” The 'Maalik' director’s message reaffirmed that the movie will release worldwide on April 23.

Theatre dispute raises concerns

Despite the new promotional material confirming the date the film currently faces uncertainty regarding its theatrical screening in Kerala. The issue began after the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala reportedly opposed screening the film in theatres under its control.

According to reports, the disagreement revolves around the revenue-sharing arrangement between theatre owners and the film's producers. The movie is still officially scheduled for release on April 23, but the conflict has raised questions about whether it will release smoothly in all theatres. Members of the exhibitors’ organisation spoke about the issue while explaining their stance.

Revenue sharing disagreement

Representatives of FEUOK told Press Trust of India that theatres affiliated with the organisation would not screen the film due to the producer’s demand for a higher revenue share. An organisation member explained the current disagreement regarding the financial terms. They stated, “However, the producer is demanding that the 60:40 ratio continue for the first two weeks. As theatre operators are already reeling under a severe financial crisis, such an agreement on revenue sharing cannot be accepted.”

According to the exhibitors’ group, Malayalam films usually follow a standard revenue-sharing structure. The first week typically operates on a 60:40 ratio, which then changes to 55:45 during the second week. The organisation also expressed concern that agreeing to the new demand could encourage similar requests from other producers in the future.

Producer responds to the issue

Producer Anto Joseph has acknowledged the ongoing dispute and indicated that discussions are still underway. He also stated that talks would continue with industry bodies in order to resolve the issue. Anto Joseph suggested discussing the matter with the Kerala Film Producers Association to find a solution. Apart from Mohanlal and Mammootty, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban in key roles.
