'Patriotism is about bigger things, not tricolour'

Parvathy Omanakuttan, Miss India and Miss World First-Runner-Up 2008, faced criticism for wearing an outfit which featured the Indian flag on it, for an Independence Day event, a few years back.

But the actress and model feel that patriotism lies in bigger things. 'I feel proud when I see our flag, be in any manner. I represented my country for Miss World and was addressed only as 'Miss India' throughout those 40 days in South Africa. And that was the best feeling ever. For me, what is more saddening and hurtful is seeing the national flag lying all over the roads, soiled and stamped on, a few days after Independence Day.'

Parvathy urges youngsters in the country not to fall for the small things. 'Instead, they should come forward to protect the unity of our country and say we won't be divided, come what may.'
