Prithviraj’s 20-year dream realized: Directing Mohanlal and ‘Legend’ Manju Warrier in ‘L2: Empuraan’

Director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has reflected on a two-decade-old wish that has now become a reality with L2: Empuraan.


Speaking at the film’s trailer launch event, Prithviraj shared that 20 years ago, during his early days in the industry, he had once expressed his dream of directing both Mohanlal and Manju Warrier if he ever stepped into filmmaking.

At the Empuraan IMAX trailer launch in Mumbai, Prithviraj acknowledged Mohanlal and Mammootty as his biggest influences in Malayalam cinema. He also heaped praise on Manju Warrier, calling her a “legend” for her contributions to the industry. Meanwhile, Mohanlal expressed his deep gratitude to Prithviraj for making the project possible, stating, “Empuraan is not just a movie; it is our blood and sweat. The film will speak to you.” The veteran actor further added, “There is magic in Empuraan. Let the Almighty decide the rest,” confirming that he will watch the film’s first show with audiences in Kochi on March 27.

The film’s trailer has already received high praise from industry stalwarts, including Rajinikanth and SS Rajamouli. The Baahubali and RRR director took to X to share his excitement, writing, "#EMPURAAN trailer hooked me from the very first shot. @Mohanlal sir’s commanding presence is truly magnetic! Massive scale, stunning action. This already feels like a blockbuster. Wishing the #L2E team a grand release on March 27!"

With industry-wide anticipation and glowing endorsements, L2: Empuraan is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year.

On the other hand, the audiences will also get to witness the iconic duo Mohanlal and Shobana in the upcoming drama movie ‘Thudarum’. The movie which is directed by the ‘Operation Java’ fame Tharun Moorthy, is yet to announce a release date.
