Pulimurugan out of the Oscars

The news of the songs of Mohanlal's Pulimurugan going to the Oscars had sent fans into a tizzy.
Two of the songs in the movie - Kaadanayum Kaalchilambe and Maanathe Maarikurumbe - both composed by Gopi Sunder, had been sent for contention for nomination, at the 90th Academy Awards. The makers had applied in two categories - Original Score and Original Song.
The shortlisted songs for original score were announced on January 23, and the Malayalam songs have not made it.The final nominees include Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk), Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread), Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water), John Williams (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Carter Burwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
The nominees for Original Song were Mighty River from Mudbound, Mystery of Love from Call Me by Your Name, Remember Me from Coco, Stand Up for Something from Marshall, and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.
