Raj B Shetty, who has worked in both Malayalam and Kannada films, has now weighed in on the difference between the two industries. The actor who often partners with
Dulquer Salmaan and distributes Malayalam films in Karnataka. He has also shared his observation on why Malayalam films appeal to the Kannada audience.
Raj B Shetty might have delivered more movies in Kannada than in Malayalam. Regardless, he has an immense fan following in Malayalam. His roles in the films ‘Turbo’, ‘Rudhiram’, and ‘Kondal’ have managed to strike a chord with the audience. The actor has now opened up about the major difference between the Kannada and Malayalam movie industries.
During his appearance on Allrounder Show, Raj B Shetty explained that both Malayalam and Kannada films has its fair share of failures. However, there is a difference. “In the year gone by, for instance, Malayalam cinema released around 160 films, while in Kannada, we did 250-260. We had only 2 successful films, while they had 10-12 theatrical hits, and at least another 12 that recovered their budget from OTT deals. So, from a total of 160, they have 25 success stories, against our 2 from 260; that’s the difference,” he said.
He also added that he has been closely observing and trying to understand the pattern that Malayalam cinema follows in terms of production, selling, marketing, PR, and technicians.
“It’s a very strong set-up. There is a lot of work to be done here to get there, but there are efforts. It will take time, but we will get there,” he said.

Raj B Shetty will be next seen in ‘Rakkasapuradhol. A crime thriller, the upcoming film features Raj Shetty in the role of a cop. This is his first film in the role of a police officer. Directed by Ravi Saranga, the film marks his third release in 2 months. The actor was also seen in ‘45’ released during Christmas 2025. He kicked off 2026 with ‘Landlord’, wherein he played the antagonist.
