Kick boxer-turned-actress Ritika Singh has voiced her concerns about the rising number of crimes against women and children. In a powerful message penned on social media, the ‘King Of Kotha’ actress expressed her concern and also voiced her opinion on why one should bring up their children, making them aware of the world, and also giving them self defense lessons.

“My blood boils with extreme rage every time I read news articles about women, young girls and children getting molested, tortured, raped and brutally murdered. Tossed away and discarded like their life means nothing. The fact that I get a notification about something like this happening, every 2 hours is the part that freaks me out the most! The fact that s**t like this happens so often in our country, and to think that most of these cases don't even get reported!!! When will this stop??? Ritika Singh said in her note.

She also expressed her solidarity with the vicitims of such heinous crimes, “I wish people who commit these crimes had the heart to understand that when this happens to somebody, it changes them and leaves them scarred forever. There is no getting over it. The physical wounds may heal, but the scars on your soul remain forever. My heart goes out to every single person who is a victim of these heinous crimes and has to live with the aftermath of these incidents.”

In the note, Ritika Singh stressed the grave need of being fit, and trying to learn a martial art form, or take self defence. “What I'm going to say next is immensely sad, but it's a truth that we all know - it is the fact that most of us have been through it. On some or the other level, it has happened to all of us. Some of us were probably too naive to even realise that it happened. Please, take it upon you to look after yourself and get strong physically and mentally. Exercise, eat right, pick up a martial art form that gives you the confidence.”

The actress also emphasized that taking a martial arts class or self defence lesson, won’t make women ‘manly.’

“Make your presence so strong that when they even look at you - these people will know that you will break them into two, if they try to even think about messing with you. If you're a parent, push your kids to stay physically active, make them learn martial arts, self defence etc. No it won't make your daughters manly.”

She also underlined the fact that why such an awareness is pivotal even in terms of children. “Its time we start having these conversations with our kids. I know these kind of discussions are difficult to have with little children, because they are so pure, innocent and beautiful. But unfortunately, we live in a world with monsters that feed on that purity and innocence and don't feel an iota of shame before carrying out such disgusting acts,” she said.

Her note further elaborated about why it is important to infuse respect for women in the male child, and not objectify. “It is our responsibility to safeguard ourselves, to look after one another and protect the future generations. To bring them up with values that teach them to respect each other, no matter where they come from. Values that teach boys/men not to look at women like objects and showpieces. When there is a strong value system at the grassroot level, things will slowly but gradually, start to change. Until then, the fight goes on. The harder it gets, the stronger we respond. Stay strong, stay fierce, stay focused! Let them call you "manly" You do you and get really f***ing powerful. Coz no one's gonna come for you when unfortunate events like this occur. It's just you. So to hell with people who call strong women manly. YES WE ARE STRONG, YES WE ARE INTIMIDATING, YES WE ARE A MENACE, Because We are THE RESISTANCE!” she said.
