Shobana posts touching tribute to SP Balasubrahmanyam

Fans and industry colleagues cannot seem to come to terms with the death of

SP Balasubrahmanyam

who passed away on September 25, as they continue to post memorable moments and memories from the life of the film industry stalwart.

Among the numerous messages that pour in, Shobana posted a touching

tribute

. The actor posted a clip from the Sundari Kannal Oru Sethi song sequence, picturised on herself and Rajanikanth from Mani Ratnam directorial Dalapathi, that SPB lent his voice to. The hit songs in the movie were composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

“It is difficult to come to terms with his loss, especially while I was searching for a song to post in his memory .. Nothing to be said other than we have lost an irreplaceable treasure. We acted together as well. He played a cop and me, a thief. Unassuming, jovial, pure and song centered was SPB sir,” the actor wrote on her social media handle, reflecting a sentiment that was widely conveyed regarding SPB’s humane personality.

SPB, whose career spanned over nearly 60 years, has not only sung in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, but included roles in several south Indian films. To the Malayalee audience, he is much loved for his duets with KS Chitra and Yesudas, apart from his memorable Tamil songs. One of his biggest hits, Malare Mounama for the film Karna, was composed by Vidyasagar.
Since his passing last Friday, there has been an online campaign, gaining momentum, to confer the Bharat Ratna to the celebrated singer.
