K P Vyasan's Shubharathri is inspired from a real-life incident that made headlines in Kerala a few years ago. In the first half of the 130 minutes film, we get to meet the family of Muhammad (Siddhique), a self-made man, who is all set to go on hajj.
Despite showing a series of events that are predictably quite common in such households, the movie manages to keep audience glued to the screen.
Each of the characters, played by Indrans, Shanthikrishna, Nadirsha, Asha Sharath and the rest are interesting and generate the feelings of compassion, nostalgia and more within us. The song Allahu Allahu is also very soulful and timely. At the intermission, the film introduces another main character, that's evidently all set to turn the course of the family drama that the viewers witnessed till now.
As the movie transforms into something else in the second half, will it also succeed in telling a compelling story?
