A special ponninkudam vazhipadu (gold pot offering) was performed at the revered Rajarajeswara Temple in Thaliparamba, Kannur, seeking blessings for the health and long life of Malayalam superstar Mammootty. According to Mathrubhumi.com, the sacred ritual was conducted by A. Jayakumar from Thiruvananthapuram, who made the offering on behalf of the veteran actor. Temple authorities warmly welcomed Jayakumar and presented him with a portrait of Lord Rajarajeswara, the temple’s presiding deity, as a token of appreciation for his devotion.The ponninkudam vazhipadu is considered one of the most significant offerings at the temple, believed to invoke divine blessings for prosperity, health, and longevity. The gesture, dedicated to one of Malayalam cinema’s most beloved stars, was met with heartfelt admiration from fans and devotees across the state.

This is not the first time a temple ritual has been performed for Mammootty’s well-being. Earlier, his close friend and fellow actor Mohanlal offered a ushapooja vazhipadu (morning ritual) at the Sabarimala Temple, praying for his colleague’s recovery. The gesture gained wide attention and reflected the mutual respect and enduring friendship shared by the two stalwarts of Malayalam cinema.

Mammootty returns after eight-month break

Having now recovered from illness, Mammootty returned to Kerala on Thursday after an eight-month hiatus. The actor arrived at Kochi’s Nedumbassery Airport in the afternoon, traveling from Chennai after completing his schedule in the UK. He had been abroad shooting for his upcoming film ‘Patriot’, directed by Mahesh Narayanan and co-starring Mohanlal.

Mammootty’s health

In March this year, rumours did the rounds that Mammootty had cancer and was taking a break from acting to recuperate. His friend Mohanlal also prayed at Sabarimala for his health. However, his team denied to MidDay that he had cancer. Later, MP John Brittas confirmed to Reporter TV that Mammootty was taking treatment for an illness, but called it a ‘minor health issue’ without revealing much. Mammootty’s personal secretary George posted on his behalf on Instagram that he was now recovered.
