While several Mollywood filmmakers had announced that
Sunny Leone will be making her Malayalam debut with their films, the actress recently confirmed via her social media page that her first Malayalam movie will be Rangeela, directed by
Santhosh Nair of Money Ratnam fame.
On the movie, the filmmaker, who is currently working on Dhyan Sreenivasan-starrer Sachin, tells us, “It’s a fun road movie which is about a group of people travelling from Goa to Hampi.
Sunny is there throughout the film but she won’t be speaking Malayalam. She will be playing a South Indian diva in the movie.”
While the earlier films announced with her had sleazy elements too thrown into the mix, Santhosh clarifies that Rangeela “is not a sex comedy”. “Such films won’t work in Malayalam. The only aspect that the audience might find a bit raunchy would be a special dance number her character would be performing in a shooting set. Otherwise the entire movie has humour and thriller elements.”
On getting Sunny to be part of the film, Santhosh says, “She liked the subject a lot. She said a few directors from Malayalam had approached her with film offers, but this movie had a story that she could relate to and that’s why she is eager to do it. The film’s producer Jayalal Menon met her first as the story of the film is by him and then our writer went again to narrate the script.”
Currently, only Sunny Leone, Harish Kanaran and Salim Kumar have been cast along with Aju Varghese, who will be seen in a cameo. Thaikkudam Bridge will be doing the music for the movie, which will be shot in Kochi, Goa, Hampi and Chikmagalur. “We are working on the final version of the script and are hoping to start shooting by February next year,” says Santhosh.
