Suresh Gopi has to lose weight for Malutty Sabu!
M-Town stars are going the extra mile to get into the skin of their characters. After Mohanlal and Jayasurya, action king of Mollywood, Suresh Gopi, is sweating it out to lose nearly 20kg for his role in the upcoming movie, Malutty Sabu.
If sources are to be believed, the actor will sport a never-seen-before avatar in the comedy film helmed by Prasanth Mambully.

“Suresh Gopi will play a thug and a broker from Muvattupuzha. He is forced to marry a girl who he doesn’t like, and flees from his native place owing to circumstances. Later, he comes back as Saravanan Muthalali, a successful businessman in Alappuzha, and the following events form the rest of the plot,” says scriptwriter Babu Janardhanan.
Babu says the film will be based on an innovative concept. “Sabu gets the moniker, Malutty, as one day he gets drunk and falls into a deep well. And he is rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service personnel. Since the incident is similar to the plot of yesteryear hit film, Malutty, the villagers nickname him, Malutty Sabu,” says Babu, adding that the female lead, who is one of the important characters, is yet to be finalised.
Apart from losing weight, Suresh Gopi is likely to shave off his hair to get his look right. “The movie depicts two phases in the life of Sabu. In the flashback, he plays a 35-year-old man, and for the look he has to lose weight,” he says.
Joy Mathew will portray the character of a prominent toddy shop owner near Cherthala in the film. “The slang and mannerisms of Joy Mathew’s character will be similar to Kochuvava, the character in the play Kattukuthira immortalised by the late Rajan P Dev,” says Babu.
The movie will be shot in Ottapalam, Alleppey, Thodupuzha and Guruvayoor.
