Actor Dileep is known to go the whole nine yards for his roles. Be it playing a woman in Mayamohini, a hunchback in Kunjikoonan or a cross-dresser in Chanthupottu, hes pulled it all off with lan. So when the star says that his role as an academic, Shantanu, in his next truly tested him as an actor, you tend to take notice.
Its not the complexity or the appearance of the character thats made it a tough task, but the technology of sync sound, where dialogues are recorded live on sets, Dileep explains.
Because it was my first time at this, I was really tensed as there were so many things you had to be conscious about your position, light, dialogues, emotional tone; and you are totally dependent on your co-actors. So the real test was to get all these variables right so that it didnt affect the performance, says Dileep.
However, the actor says the entire cast, including his co-stars Samvritha Sunil and
Mamta Mohandas, stepped up to the task and made sure that the experience was memorable. The superstar says after the shoot was through, he had also called his director, Shyamaprasad, to tell him how much he missed shooting with live sound as it brought a real feel to acting and emoting.
But quiz him on whether he would use the technology for his next production and Dileep says the investment could be high and its not practical for all films. With all these factors involved in sync sound, the best thing would be to make sure that you settle all actors payments before you begin the project, he quips.
