As the release date of Thudarum draws closer, director Tharun Moorthy has taken a moment to clear the air about the Mohanlal-starrer’s genre, emphasizing that the film is a family drama and not a crime or investigative thriller, as some audience members have assumed.
“I get tensed”—Tharun - Tharun MoorthyIn a recent interview with The Cue, Moorthy expressed concern over the mislabeling of the film. “When we are doing a film with a brand like Mohanlal, we should obviously expect good hype,” he said. “But what I am worried about is that we have already fixed a genre for the movie. This comes under family drama. When audiences start deducing a different genre for the movie, I get tensed.”
“ I cannot accept it—that’s my nature.”The director, known for his previous work on socially relevant films, admitted that perhaps his reaction stems from his inexperience but added, “When we define a genre and make a movie accordingly, if anything comes beyond that, I cannot accept it—that’s my nature.”
Tharun Moorthy also noted that some are calling ‘Thudarum’ a mystery thriller or even an investigative drama, which he says is incorrect. “That’s an issue,” he stated firmly.
All set for release!Set for release on April 25, 2025, Thudarum stars Mohanlal in the role of Shanmugham, a hardworking taxi driver who leads a content life with his family. The film takes a dramatic turn when his vehicle becomes entangled in legal and bureaucratic complications, forcing him into situations that test his resolve and character. As Tharun Moorthy has already clarified regarding the genre of this Mohanlal starrer, be prepared to enjoy a heartwarming drama movie on the big screens.
On the other hand, Mohanlal is basking in the success of the recently released film ‘L2: Empuraan.’
