‘There has been significant mischaracterizations and misrepresentations in the media regarding our rehabilitation centre,’ says Thampy Antony

For the past few days, several allegations have been coming up in a section of the American media regarding the nursing and rehabilitation centre headed by Malayalam actor Thampy Antony and wife Prema.

There were reports which stated that the facility did not impart the necessary care to those admitted with symptoms of Covid – 19, and that even staff who were infected were asked to work at the centre. The actor recently brought out a statement regarding the same, in which he says he is following all applicable guidelines and recommendations of the authorities. A news report also claimed that a criminal case has been filed against him.

He says in the statement, “We are deeply saddened by the suffering that The Corona Virus has caused our residents, their families and our staff.We appreciate the opportunity to care for our residents in these very difficult times and are doing everything in our power to keep them safe, healthy and protected from the spread of this disease.We are particularly grateful to our staff who continue to provide care to our residents and keep their families and loved ones informed while dealing with the demands that this pandemic has placed on them and their own families. We are following all applicable guidelines and recommendations including those issued by The Center for Disease Control, The California Department of Public Health and Alameda County Public Health Department.” The actor also says the centre is working very closely with Alameda county public health Department.

“We note that there have been significant mischaracterizations and misrepresentations in the media regarding Gateway and its handling of this crisis,” says the actor, adding, “We continue to comply with all applicable guidelines and governmental orders related to the care of our residents in this time of crisis.We will not divert the resources at this time to address them.We will direct all available resources to the ongoing care and wellbeing of our residents, keeping their families and loved ones informed and the safety and protection of our staff.”
