Mohanlal’s directorial debut film ‘Barroz’ is unfortunately doing an underwhelming box office performance and a recent report says that the movie was mounted on a whopping budget of around Rs 150 crores.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, the ‘Barroz’ marketing head Dr Sharon Thomas reveals that Mohanlal’s film was worth around Rs 150 crores. She said, “They have spent a massive amount around Rs 150 crores for this movie (‘Barroz’). Director Mohanlal’s vision was to give something back to the Indian cinema. He was not really looking at only Malayalam, obviously, that’s also important to him, but he focused on the Indian cinema..”
Meanwhile, ‘Barroz’ has only managed to mint Rs 9.04 crores from India in 6 days according to the Sacnilk website. The movie opened with a strong Rs 3.45 crores, but due to its underwhelming reception, a massive drop in the day-wise collections happened.
Recently Mohanlal reacted to the underwhelming box office collections for his directorial debut in an interview by saying, “ this is not about the numbers or the money. I want to make something and give it to the audience. This is a gift for them, for their respect and love over the last 47 years. This is a gift, an offering from me to them. I have given a children-friendly film that families can watch together. It will also tickle the child in you,"
Etimes gave a rating of only 2.5 out of 5 for the fantasy film and our review said that the movie caters to young audiences even though there are many flaws in it. Our review also called it a visually appealing film with a nice musical score by Mark Kilian.
