Afzal Yusuff’s new song is ‘Mazhathoovi Maanam’
Music composer – singer Afzal Yusuff has a released a new single, that goes ‘Mazhathoovi Maanam, Mizhi Koombi Maunam,’ a melody that’s all about love and the pulsing feeling of longing.
It is sung and composed by Afzal himself. The song, which has its words penned by Abu Akode, also has a video shot on a beautiful beach, where the singer – composer can be seen singing, facing the waves as they hit the shores, calmly. Afzal captions the video thus: There are no emotions which can’t be conveyed through music. Whether it is joy, excitement, love, anger or desperation, music is the best medium to express them all. Here's my new song ‘Mazhathoovimanam,’ which ties the pleasure of love and the pain of separation by the thread of music. Hope you’ll enjoy it!’
The song has rich shades of the Hindustani raag Kafi That, that is often credited with invoking the emotion of pathos in the listeners. There are many ghazals and vintage Bollywood songs that have strains of this raag and have gone on to become hits. One of the songs that is quite popular, based on this raag is the track ‘Jalte Hai Jiske Liye’ of Talat Mahmood from Hindi film ‘Sujata,’ which was released in the year 1959.
