The emtional feel of Kannamthumbi is undisturbed in cover version: Ouseppachan

A

cover

release of the

Kannamthumbi

song was a perfect gift for Malayalees on Chingam 1, the start of the new year in the Malayalam calendar. And it is a treat that Ouseppachan, who composed the original version has also done the cover. “It felt really nice that people responded wholeheartedly to the cover version; I was so happy that many people call me to express their appreciation,” says the National Award-winning composer. “Whenever I used to sing this song on stage, it was well-received, even though it is so old, so I knew it would be appreciated if it was released again as a cover.”

Speaking about keeping the purity of the original in the new version, Ouseppachan says, “The emotions and the expressions are the same, I have only changed the notations, so the natural feel of the original song is not disturbed. I could have used heavy beats to rework it, but that would be meaningless in a song such as this, which transports us to our childhood and conveys a mother’s love.”

The song was directed by director duo Pramod Pappan and shot entirely in Dubai.

“The song was ready just before lockdown was declared, so it didn’t feel right to release it then. Chingam 1 felt like a good time for it, and to lend some positivity to everyone,” said Pramod about the song, which was released on social media by Mammootty. The song, which was originally part of Kamal's Kakkothikkavile Appooppan Thaadikal was sung by Haritha Harish, a Plus One student, who has sung playback for Contessa and Bonsai.
