For those of you who watched the Malayalam film

Angamaly Diaries

and for those of you who didn’t get a chance to watch it too, we have some good news. The film, considered among the best of 2017, is getting a Marathi remake now.

Titled

Kolhapur Diaries

, the film is an official remake of the Malayalam hit and is being helmed by director Joe Rajan. Music composer Avadhoot Gupte has also associated with it in the capacity of a presenter. Sharing details about the film, Rajan said, “Many Hindi producers were also trying to acquire the rights, but I am happy we are doing the film in Marathi and adding a Kolhapuri tadka to it. I think a regional language remake can do more justice to the film, than a mainstream Bollywood film.”

Angamaly Diaries, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, revolved around a group of youngsters from Kerala who form a gang and decide to get into the local pork business. Ambitions, love, struggle and gang wars formed an integral part of the film.

The makers feel that Kolhapur is an ideal setting for the remake mainly because it will lend a rustic feel, just like the original which was based in Angamaly, a small town in Kerala. The team is currently towards the end of their shoot in Kolhapur and while details about the cast haven’t been revealed yet, we hear that actor Bhushan Patil will be playing one of the characters. As for the reception the film will get, Rajan added, “There will be comparisons for sure and how the audience will receive it is something we will know when it releases. However, I can say that we want the film to be bigger than the original and are working towards it.”
