Over the past many years, Bollywood has been churning out

horror

films. While some have been genuinely scary, most of the films have resorted to tricks like introducing comedy or a sex angle to their stories. That is where the

Marathi

film

Kaaal

scores.

The film stays true to its story and explores what it promises to, without deviating from the subject or introducing any sub-plots in the story. Filmmaker Sandeep says, “A lot of people told me to introduce a sex angle in my film but I didn’t. Their argument was that that would make the film saleable and may also attract investors. I didn’t want to do something just for the heck of it. I was confident about my story and shot the film my way. I am sure the audience will like it because it promises to be a good watch for them.”

Sandeep also says that he was confident of making this film for Marathi viewers. “The Marathi industry is the only one apart from maybe the Bengali and Malayalam industry that recognises the power of a story and the importance of staying true to it. If I had made this as a Hindi film, I might have had to add unnecessary songs as well. And that would have taken away the impact of the film. This is precisely why I was sure I would make Kaaal in Marathi only,” says Sandeep.

Kaaal, which is written, directed and edited by

D Sandeep

, is eyeing a January 2020 release. It has been produced by Pravin Kharat and Anuj Adwani, and features Satish Gejage, Sanket Vishwasrao, Shreyas Behere, Rajkumar Jarange, Vaibhavi Chavan and Gayatri Chighlikar in pivotal roles.
