Dharmadhikari who is well known for his blockbuster films like 'Baapjanma', 'Dhappa' and many more, is currently gearing for the release of the much-awaited film 'Me Vasantrao'.

ETimes caught up with him to chat about his film 'Me Vasantrao', his anticipation with the film, and much more. Excerpts:


What do you have to say about directing 'Me Vasantrao'
Like every film, 'Me Vasantrao' has a journey of its own. But this journey has been as hard as

. I am happy that finally, this film is seeing the light of the day.




You have been working on this project for the last 9 years. What is your anticipation?
To be honest, it was a very challenging process. When you working on a film that has altogether 22 songs, it is not an easy task. So this was a different experience. If you have a good number of songs but we also need to make sure that it takes your story forward along with the emotions.

I have been working with Rahul Deshpande for a long time now. I was directing a play where Rahul used to act and was producing it. So, we used to talk a lot about Vasantrao Deshpande. And all that I heard about Vasantrao Deshpande was just mesmerising. I had apprehension about the fact that just because a few incidents from someone's life are interesting may not warrant for a film to be shot. So, we did research and also talk to his family members and I found that there is definitely a story to be told here.




To bring the struggle of the late classical vocalist Vasantrao Deshpande on the big-screen was challenging?
When it comes to any artist, his or her life is filled with struggle. That is what we going to see. Apart from that, it will become a personal film for everyone. The most exciting part is that it is an untold story of Vasantrao Deshpande.

The year has already started with a bang. I am working on the pre-production of my upcoming film which is yet to be titled. Apart from that, I am waiting for the release of 'Me Vasantrao'.
