One of the finest Indian directors,
Nishikant Kamat passed away after battling with Chronic Liver Disease. The 50-year-old filmmaker
was
admitted to hospital in Hyderabad, where he breathed his last. His close friend
Uday Tikekar, who worked in Kamat's directorials such as 'Madaari', 'Rocky Handsome' and 'Lai Bhaari' remembers him as a meticulous
planner
.
Speaking to us, he said, "He was a perfect planner. He had great management skills. Interestingly, there would never be a panic situation on the sets. The atmosphere would be quite chilled out and I have never seen him worrying over anything during the shoots. I was a fan of his
meticulous
planning. As an actor as well, he was quite open to criticism. After giving his shot, he would always seek the feedback of his co-stars."
Tikekar went on to add, "I have lost a great friend and industry has lost a great filmmaker. He was someone who had an ability to tap the potential of an actor. Coming from a theatre background, he knew exactly which actor would be able to pull off which character. He had no airs about himself. I have never seen him tom-tomming about himself. Instead he would give valuable advice to all his actors and technicians on how they can improve or broaden their horizon."
Nishikant Kamat made his directorial debut in Marathi films with 'Dombivali Fast' that won a National Award in Best Feature Film category.
