Ketaki Mategoankar has been away from the big screen for a while now but she’s all set to make a return soon. The 'Phuntroo' actress recently finished shooting for two of her Marathi films. While one is a love story, the other deals with the concept of music therapy, shares the singer-actress, who is excited to be acting for films after seven years.
‘It’s an exciting time for actors’ Ketaki says that she didn’t want to get stuck in a rut, so she took a breather from films. She explains, “After 'Timepass' and 'Kaksparsh', I was offered similar roles. And even if I had taken up those projects, the box-office fate wouldn’t have necessarily been great. So, I wanted to explore something that I had not done before. Also, I didn’t want to get stuck in a time warp where I was just being roped in to play a teenager. That said, now is an exciting time for me as an actor. With my upcoming Marathi films, I am finally getting to break out of the teenager image. While I shot for one of the films in Pune, I flew to Switzerland for the other.”

‘Every genre of music has its charm’ Coming from a family of musical artistes, Ketaki is fond of Indian and western music. “As a child, I have listened to Hindustani classical, western classical and even Arabic. From our folk music such as lavani and gondhal, to R&B and country music, I was exposed to diverse music genres at an early age. Every kind of music has its own charm. I enjoy and appreciate all genres of music.” says Ketaki. While many artistes feel that new age songs lack soul or melody, Ketaki presents a different viewpoint. “Every era has a share of good and bad songs. The musical taste is very subjective. Music trends keep changing; listeners change too. So, not everyone feels that they connect with the current music. And it is fine. Twenty-five years later, I may not be very impressed with the kind of music of that time. But I don’t agree with the notion that music lacks soul today. There are so many composers who are creating some beautiful compositions, be it Ajay-Atul, Chinar-Mahesh, Amitraj, Shankar Mahadevan, Vishal-Shekhar etc, to name a few.”

‘Recorded for a lavani during my stay in Los Angeles’ The Shala actress pursued a course in music in Los Angelesand she calls it a lifetime experience. “I had gone there on a scholarship after completing my advanced grade in piano from Trinity College of London. I even recorded for a lavani called 'Nazar Katyar' from Mahesh Manjrekar’s 'De Dhakka 2' from LA. I collaborated with a rapper called Leland Smith from Vegas for the same,” she shares, adding that she visited LA again last year for a professional project.
