Meet the international jury of IFFI 2019

The international jury of the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) comprises renowned filmmakers and cinema experts. John Bailey, cinematographer and former President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, will chair the international jury of IFFI which includes French, Chinese and British directors.

In May, John Bailey, then the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, along with wife Carol Littleton, an award-winning film editor, visited India. During their five-day trip, Bailey went to the National Museum of Indian Cinema, attended the Maharashtra State Film Awards, and interacted with movie buffs in Delhi. During the event in Delhi, the I&B officials also requested Bailey to visit India during IFFI.

During an interaction in the capital, Bailey said, “We (Academy Awards) were Hollywood-centric for so long. There were thousands and thousands of filmmakers around the world, who have been making films for 30, 40, 50 years, but they were never invited by the Academy. There are great filmmakers everywhere and we need to acknowledge them and their films need to be seen irrespective of gender, race or ethnicity.”

A source, says, “Our international jury includes award-winning filmmakers and cinema experts who are committed to recognising the excellent film for audiences from across the world. We are grateful that they have accepted our invitation to judge these films.” Other jury members include French director Robin Campillo ('120 Beats Per Minute'), who was a member of the Cannes International Jury this year. Other jury members include renowned Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yang ('Getting Home') and Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay ('Ratcatcher'). Director Ramesh Sippy ('Sholay') is the Indian member of this jury.
This year, 15 films have been selected from over 700 entries for the international section.
