Want to take a part of Bengal with me to Cannes: Niranjan Mondal
Niranjan Mondal, popularly known as Laughtersane is set to make his Cannes debut this year. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, he wrote “We’re going to debut at Cannes film festival... It feels like a dream come true (sic).” Swastika Dutta, Ushasi Ray and Parno Mitta were among the ones who congratulated him.
However, for Niranjan, this is beyond a glamorous international appearance.
Speaking to us, the acgtor-content creator says, “Honestly it still hasn’t fully sunk in. As someone who started by creating content with simple ideas and honest storytelling, I never imagined it would take me to a global platform like this." Calling it “exciting, emotional, and a huge milestone,” he also tells that the recognition reflects how “regional voices and digital creators” are finally finding space on international platforms.
The Bengal connection makes the occasion even more meaningful. “Bengal has such a rich cultural identity, from cinema and literature to art, music, and fashion so representing it on a platform like Cannes definitely feels special,” he says. At the same time, he is clear about staying true to himself. “I’m not trying to become someone else for a global stage; I want to take a part of Bengal with me exactly as it is.”
Beyond the glamour and limelight, Niranjan is most excited about the creative exchange Cannes offers. “I’m looking forward to the experience — meeting people from different creative industries, understanding global storytelling trends, and learning from artists and creators from around the world,” he says. He also hopes the moment “opens doors for more Indian and regional creators to be seen globally.”
Talking about his Cannes look, the Birangana actor says, "I’m leaning towards outfits that have a strong Indian influence but with a contemporary global appeal. Since it’s Cannes, I do want to experiment a little with silhouettes and styling, but comfort and authenticity are very important to me. I want the final look to feel memorable without losing who I am.”
