#Adios2020: Diljit Dosanjh to Mandy Takhar, top 5 Punjabi stars who made headlines this year

Everyone faces challenges, but where on one hand some people choose to only whine about the hardship, on the other hand, some make sure to leave no stone unturned in changing the situation around. For instance, 2020 threw challenges at one and all; moreover, it affected the entertainment industry the most, but some artists still made sure not only to survive it but own the year. In 2019, Diljit Dosanjh gave not one but two major hits - ‘Shadaa’ and ‘Good Newwz’, in Punjabi and Hindi respectively. In 2020 he was supposed to entertain all with ‘Jodi’ but the lockdown and pandemic led to a change of plans. And this change of plans led to the release of his album ‘G.O.A.T’. Each and every song of the album is a chartbuster and it kept Diljit in the headlines.

Besides this, he was also in news for standing in solidarity with the farmers. His support started with tweets, then he had a war of words with Kangana Ranaut who misidentified an elderly woman at the protest, and later he joined the farmers in their rally. He was opposed by many and even his intentions behind supporting the farmers were questioned, but nothing stopped Diljit from stating his viewpoint.

During the lockdown period, Ammy Virk was one of the Punjabi stars who made sure that the audience gets a regular dose of entertainment. He started sharing cover versions of old Punjabi songs sung by legendary artists and the videos of the same went viral on social media. Later, he also released his original track which became a big hit. And, as soon as the government gave relaxations for shooting, Ammy Virk went on a working spree. He started the shoot of ‘Saunkan Saunkane’ with Sargun Mehta and Nimrat Khaira, then he went to the sets of ‘Qismat 2’ with Sargun Mehta, and as we speak, he is shooting ‘Sufna 2’ with Tania.

Gippy Grewal is another Punjabi star who made sure the audience is kept entertained throughout 2020, and for the same reason, he was the one who kept on making headlines throughout the year. It all started with Gippy Grewal’s first movie of 2020 ‘Ik Sandhu Hunda Si’. It was a college romance drama that featured Gippy Grewal in an action hero avatar. It was a genre not touched by the actor for years and thus, led to a high level of anticipation among the audience.

Thereafter, he was the first filmmaker to put a pause to the shoot and release of his movies owing to the pandemic. He did it even before the lockdown was imposed. Furthermore, Gippy Grewal’s album ‘The Main Man’, his updates on the release date of his movies that got pushed forward, the shoot of ‘Paani Ch Madhaani’ and ‘Phatte Dinde Chak Punjabi’, and the announcement of new projects kept Gippy Grewal in news.

Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa made 2020 the year of trying something new. Earlier, it was only his songs that use to keep him in the headlines, but in 2020 he got into the limelight owing to his physical transformation. The singer was never too chubby to start with, but he made sure to get into a shape people can get envious of. And considering his chiseled abs and perfect jawline, we must say it is a job well done.

Another reason that helped Guru in turning heads was the release of the song ‘Heelien Toot Gayi’. The song featured Guru lip-syncing to the vocals of Badshah, and this was the first time Randhwaw was seen in a song that was neither sung, written, or composed by him.

Mandy Takhar stayed in the headlines in 2020 for various reasons. The foremost was the release of her debut Hindi music video with Jubin Nautiyal. It was an emotional song video that tugged at the heartstrings in no time. Thereafter, an unfortunate incident also drew a lot of attention towards the actress, as a fake video of her with objectionable content got viral on the internet. However, Mandy didn’t let this one event ruin her reputation and kill her spirit. She raised her voice against cybercrime and took legal action against the culprits.

Further, in 2020 Mandy Takhar also turned producer. She announced her first project ‘Kikli’ as a producer, which starts her, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jobanpreet Singh. The first shooting schedule of the same is over and the movie will be releasing in 2021.
