Punjabi singer Deep Money has been turning heads not just in the regional music industry but also in B-town. His recent release ‘Heeriye’ in ‘Race 3’ made him the first turbanator to render voice to a Bollywood superstar
Salman Khan. While talking to TimesOfIndia.com in an exclusive interview, the songster opened about his future plans in the tinsel town and lot more.
The trainingWhile singing for Salman Khan remains a dream for many, it became reality for Deep Money when he was roped in for the vocals of ‘Heeriye’ in ‘Race 3’.
However, Deep Money prepared himself before rendering his voice for Salman. He said, “My singles did quite well, but singing for Bollywood is a whole new ball game. I was in Mumbai for one and half years with Meet Brothers only. When they heard my song, they liked my vocals and texture of my voice. Then, they literally designed me for Bollywood. They trained me for being the voice of a B-town face. We did a lot of rehearsals, attended different shows as well.”
Bigger plans aheadWill the audience see more of his work in Bollywood? “Now that I have got such a big platform, and Salman Khan sir himself has liked my voice, I certainly am not stopping at one song. We have some songs ready of Bollywood and I am willing to make more,” he added.
At the same time, when asked if he would like any of his earlier songs to be featured in Bollywood, he didn’t take long to list top three, “‘Dope Shope’, ‘Come To Me’ and Meet Brothers’ favourite ‘Blush’.”
Let the charm of old remain intactBe it Hindi or Punjabi music industry, revamping of old melodies is a trend in both. On one hand, while various singers are remaking old classic songs, Deep Money says he likes to bring something original to the fans. “‘Heeriye’ is not a recreation, still is doing great on the charts. I don’t want to do the remake of songs; it’s like you are asking to make a new Taj Mahal by demolishing the old one. What has been done is done. It’s better to do something new. I enjoy in bringing originality and new tracks. Aagar hum purane gaane udhedenge, to purana bhi khraab hoga or naya bhi (If we will play around the old songs, both old and new will lose their charm).
Movie on the plate? Many Punjabi artists have made their way into Bollywood movies, and reportedly a lot more are planning to make their debuts. Thus, it would not have come up as a surprise if Deep Money would have also quoted to have similar plans. However, the artist seems much more into music than anything else. “My focus right now is on my music. I don’t want to do movies, I just want to concentrate on my work, my songs and that’s it”, he concluded.
