Exclusive! “The word ‘dad’ became special to me when my father left the world,” says Dheeraj Kumar

Dheeraj Kumar is one of the Punjabi actors who is living the dream of his father. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes on the occasion of Father’s Day 2020, the actor told how his father always wanted him to pursue a career in a creative field, and how today though his dad is not in the mortal world, his dreams are alive in his eyes.

The ‘Ik Sandhu Hunda Si’ fame actor started the conversation with, “The word ‘dad’ became special to me when my father left the world. I think I have inherited my dad’s nature as it, and today while speaking about him there’s so much I want to say and it’s so hard to sum it all up. For instance, I remember I was very young, and right from that point on he taught me so many small yet useful things. From things like don’t waste water, to life lessons like do everything by your own hands, he taught me so much.”
“He was one of the most decent and confident people I have ever met. I always try to carry the confidence that he had; however, I fail to bring exact confidence like him. Yet, whatever I have brought on the screen so far is a dream that he saw,” he added.
Continuing the tales of his father, Dheeraj said, “There are some other things as well. My father saw his unfulfilled dreams in my eyes. He used to ask me to pursue an interest in music. And when I used to lack interest in the same, he used to turn a little strict. And here I must say here that my father fulfilled every wish of mine, but never showed over pampering. He was a little strict with me because he felt I was very innocent and in order to show me the right path, he had his own way. I suppose since fathers all around the world have crossed the paths that we too have to cross one day, and thus, from their experiences they try to warn us about the pitfalls in advance. And we must listen to them.”
“Also, coming back to the point that he fulfilled every wish of mine. I remember whenever I wanted something and I used to ask him or my mother, my father used to just get it done. And he never showed us how he managed to do it, what all efforts went behind that. I think a father has a superpower of fulfilling his kid’s every need, without letting him know about the struggle behind him,” added the actor.
Dheeraj then concluded the conversation on the note that it is quite impossible to sum up the bond of a father and a son in words. To put it in a nutshell all he could say was “A son is a part of his father and will always remain so.”
