'Honsla Rakh' Box Office: This Diljit Dosanjh and Shehnaaz Gill starrer film is inching towards Rs. 50 crores mark

’, the comedy-drama starring the most popular faces of Punjab - Diljit Dosanjh, Shehnaaz Gill, Sonam Bajwa, and Shinda Grewal, is not just making and breaking records at the Indian box office, but also setting new highs on global charts. According to the report of Box Office India, ‘Honsla Rakh’ is heading for a business of more than Rs. 50 crores worldwide.In fact, considering the strong hold of the movie in India, the reports even suggest that ‘Honsla Rakh’ does have the potential to beat ‘Chal Mera Putt 2’s worldwide collection by the end of the second week. Though overseas both the movies are likely to finish in a similar range, there are possibilities that the Diljit Dosanjh starrer might emerge as the highest-grossing Punjabi film internationally with its hold in India.
Last but not least, talking purely in terms of numbers, the collection is rock steady overseas with $1.83 million in week one and aim of reaching around $1 million in the second week, which will be a drop of 45% only.
Directed by Amarjit Singh Saron and featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Shehnaaz Gill, Sonam Bajwa, and Shinda Grewal, ‘Honsla Rakh’ is one of the most anticipated Punjabi movies of 2021. It made it to the theatres last Friday, i.e. on October 15. Right after its release, the movie started setting new benchmarks for not just Pollywood but Bollywood as well. According to the numbers from Box Office Of India, the collection of ‘Honsla Rakh’ has smashed many records. We have compiled a list of the top 5 records the movie broke at the box office.

‘Honsla Rakh’ has the most popular Punjabi stars - Diljit Dosanjh, Shehnaaz Gill, Sonam Bajwa, and Shinda Grewal in the lead. Therefore, it was clear that the movie will be collecting great numbers in Chandigarh. However, with the capacity restrictions, we were not sure how much business will the movie make, and thus, when the numbers finally came out, they were more than astonishing. According to the Box Office India report, ‘Honsla Rakh’ collected Rs.36,50,000 on its first day in Chandigarh. Earlier, it was ‘Carry On Jatta 2’ with Rs.38,00,000, but that was before the pandemic and any capacity restriction. So one can only imagine the numbers that ‘Honsla Rakh’ would have made on normal days.

Released in 2019, Diljit Dosanjh starrer ‘Shadaa’ with Rs 2,43,000 was the highest Punjabi opening film of all time, until ‘Honsla Rakh’ made it to the big screens on 15 October 2021. Yes, Diljit beat his own record and set a new one at the box office with the collection of Rs 2.55 crores on its first day. The movie made Rs 1,75,000 in East Punjabi and a whooping Rs 8,00,000 from the rest of India. ‘Shadaa’ collected Rs 53,00,000 from the rest of India on its first day, and that was before the pandemic.

‘Honsla Rakh’ broke records in Chandigarh as well as Delhi, where a Punjabi movie collecting Rs 50 lakhs is simply amazing for a Punjabi movie. On top of that, beating big Bollywood and Hollywood releases is something one could have not even thought about. According to Box Office India’s report, while ‘Honsla Rakh’ made Rs 51 lakhs, ‘Roohi’ collected Rs 42 lakhs, ‘Bell Bottom’- Rs 35 lakhs, ‘Shang Chi’ – Rs 32 lakhs, and ‘Venom – Let There Be Carnage’ – Rs 30 lakhs on their first day.

Talking about the global platform, ‘Honsla Rakh’ beat the collections of other movies that were released worldwide post-pandemic. It made a business of Rs 2 crores overseas, leading to a gross total of Rs 5 crores. This is more than ‘Bell Bottom’ and ‘Roohi’, which were released across almost 1500 sites, while the Diljit Dosanjh and Shinda Grewal starrer released at 725 sites. According to the Box Office of India report, here are the numbers:

Owing to the Dussehra holiday ‘Honsla Rakh’ did witness a drop of 10 percent in the numbers. However, it managed significant business in the country. According to Box Office India, ‘Honsla Rakh’ will become the highest-grossing Punjabi movie. Also, considering the love that the movie is getting and the success rate, the capacity has been increased from 50 percent to 66 percent in Punjab.
