“It’s a good step to release directly on an OTT platform”, says director Amardeep Singh Gill as Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ gets a digital release date

Considering the current pandemic and lockdown situation, today one of the much anticipated movies of this year ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ got an online release date. Just recently, Punjabi director Amardeep Singh Gill said that a Bollywood filmmaker will have to take the first step of releasing his big movie on an online platform and then can Pollywood think about it. Thus, we reached out to Amardeep Singh Gill again to ask for his take on Gulabo Sitabo’s online release; and the director was more than happy to get the news.
“Yes, I heard about Shootij Sircar’s ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ being released on OTT directly, and it is good to see considering the current situation”, he said.
It seems that for next 6-8 months, be it Hindi cinema, Punjabi or any other, doesn’t have any other option. Thus, it is a good step to release directly on an OTT platform”, he added.
The director in the conversation also told us that he too is thinking of creating something for an online platform. “I feel Punjabi producers too should come up in the front and release their movies on OTT. Like the other day I was talking to Deep Sidhu, who is the hero of my movies ‘Jora 10 Numbaria’ and ‘Jora The Second Chapterr’, and he said that he is thinking of releasing ‘Saade Aale’ on an online platform. Also, there’s a part of ‘Jora’, titled as ‘Jora Reloaded’ that we are thinking of molding for an OTT release. And as far as ‘Marjaney’ is concerned, I can’t comment on that right now.”
Amardeep Singh Gill concluded the conversation on the note that he really feels that considering the current situation, Punjabi filmmakers should open their minds to the option of OTT.
