With ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’ releasing tomorrow, Kapil Sharma will be giving his first Punjabi production to the cinema world. Though Kapil Sharma is known mostly for his comedy, the movie he produced deals with a very sensitive and serious genre. It showcases the bond of a father and son and their journey of understanding each other's dreams and reality. At the same time, even after being an actor himself, he didn’t come on the screen in the respective movie. Throwing some light on the same, Kapil Sharma had a candid conversation with ETimes while he was promoting ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’ in the capital. Read below to know more:

People expect me to make them laugh only, perhaps that’s why ‘

Firangi

’ couldn’t do well

Though this is the first Punjabi production by Kapil Sharma, this is not the first project the artist is producing. He made his way to the field of production last year with Hindi period drama ‘Firangi’, and he acted in the same. Kapil Sharma said that people have only seen him making them laugh; thus, that’s the only genre they expect out him. Perhaps, that was the reason he feels that when he featured in 'Firangi' which dealt with a serious genre, people couldn’t accept it. Therefore, this time Kapil Sharma said he decided not to make a cinematic appearance in ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’. He also added that though even Gurpreet Ghuggi (the main lead) is also known more for his comedy, he has already established himself as a serious genre actor with the movie ‘Ardaas’.

The box office success

The shooting of ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’ went on the floors in 2016, and it took two years to finally come out. When Kapil was asked that as a producer did that pose a pressure on him at all, the artist replied, “This is my home production and since I know Gurpreet Ghuggi and Vikram Grover for so long, it was my own family shooting it. I didn’t mind the time or investment it took, I only wanted this movie to come out great. And honestly, considering the premiere response, I guess it was all worth it.”

Further, talking about how much the box office success of the movie matters to Kapil, the debutant Punjabi producer said, “I would not say that the box office success doesn’t matter. When ‘Firangi’ didn’t do well, it did feel bad. However, the kind of subject we have brought through ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’, the number doesn’t matter much.”
