Punjabi actors opening up about the women who inspire them

While in the spirit of International Women’s Day, the leading ladies of Pollywood spoke their mind on women empowerment, the Punjabi actors of the industry opened about the women who inspired them in their real life. In a quick candid chat with ETimes, the actors of the Punjabi film industry spilled beans on the women they look up to. Keep scrolling to known in detail.

Gurpreet Ghuggi

Gurpreet Ghuggi is generally known to tickle the funny bones of people, but if you sit down with him for a serious discussion, his words will challenge the way your think. While opening up about the women who inspire him, the actor said, “If I talk about history, then in Sikh history it's Mai Bhago, who challenged those Singhs who left Guru Gobind Sahab. There were some people who said they can't fight for Guru Gobind Singh, and that's when she gave them her bangles and said that they can wear them, while she will be fighting for the Guru. Thereafter, those 40 men came back to Guru Shahab.”

He further added, “If we talk about contemporary times, then Malala (Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate) has inspired me, Taslima Nasrin's fearless writing has inspired me a lot. I have read her book 'Lajja', and have been moved by same.”

Jassie Gill

Jassie Gill who today is not just a name popular in Pollywood, but Bollywood as well, got a little nostalgic while talking about the lovely ladies who supported him through thick and thin. Here’s what the singer-actor said, “I have been born in a family where I was lucky enough to be raised by not one or two but five women - My mother, grandmother and three sisters. I am the youngest of all, and I grew up looking at them only. Though every one of them has inspired me, the first name I would like to take is of my mother. I have seen her taking care of everything, managing home, making little savings from the budget, and she was the one who use to make sure all my wishes come true and I get all the luxuries right from my school days to college time. Back then in our village, there was a small dairy where one could sell milk to get money; my mother used to do that and save money from the job. From those savings, she used to give me my pocket money. What more can I say, she also helped me when I was releasing my first album.”

“Further, I would like to say it today that my girlfriend has also been a pillar of support. Right from my college days, she has been very supportive of my career and till date, she is the one standing right by my side. Thus, she too is one of the women who has really inspired me in my life.”, concluded Jassie.

Karamjit Anmol

Actor-producer Karamjit Anmol is known for his humor both on and off the screen. He always comes up with a quirky reply when asked about something, but when it came to talking about the women who inspire him, the actor had a tough time making a choice. He said, “It's really hard to take the name of one woman in particular who has influenced me in my life. Right from the woman who gave me birth, to the one who taught me in school to those today I work with has left a mark on my life's journey. All of them have contributed in one way or the other, and thus, I would like to say all the women I have known till date have been really inspirational!”

Roshan Prince

Punjabi singer-actor Roshan Prince is currently enjoying the best time of his life, as he has been blessed with a second child and it’s a baby boy. He was already overwhelmed with emotions when asked to open on the topic and gave a heart touching reply, “The biggest inspiration in my life is my mother Nakshatra Devi. She is the one who has made me what I am today. It would not be wrong to state that she is the pillar of my life and till date, I look up to her.”

6/6

Gagan Kokri

Just like Jassie Gill, the ‘Laatu’ fame actor Gagan Kokri went down the memory lane when he was talking about the woman who has been a role model for him in his life. The singer-actor quoted, “The inspiration for me is my mother. Basically, she is from Agra and she got married in a small village, Kokri Kalan, that's where I m from. Circumstances were changed, things were changed but she somehow managed to raise me and my sister in a beautiful way. So she herself has suffered a lot, as she came from a city to village and adjusting to everything wasn't that easy. Thus, for me, my mother is and will always be a source of inspiration.”
