Punjabi June Rewind: Top 10 highlights from last month

A lot of action happened on the Punjabi entertainment front in the month of June. A number of movies were announced, some even went on the floor, while a few others got a release date. At the same time, a number of Punjabi singers made headlines owing to their new projects.

In case you missed out on any of the scoops, here’s a rewind for you:

Earlier in June, the reports of Punjabi singer Khan Saab’s arrest raised a lot of eyebrows. Reportedly, the singer was arrested for violating the Covid-19 rules. According to the reports, his birthday party went awry, when the number of guests exceeded the number allowed as per the Covid norms. Reports also suggest that the singer was released on bail after some time.

In June the power-packed singer of Punjab, Neha Kakkar celebrated her 33rd birthday. The actress received a lot of love and wishes from everyone around. Her husband Rohanpreet Singh also shared a very sweet note on her special day, which melted hearts in no time.

The ‘Titliyaan’ fame singer Afsana Khan became the second Punjabi female singer to be featured on New York’s Times Square. Afsana Khan felt it as one of her biggest life achievements. Thus, taking to her social media handle, the singer thanked everyone for their love and support and penned a heartfelt note.

Last month a couple of movies were announced, one of which was ‘Sher Bagga’. Written and to be directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, the movie has Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa in the lead. This jodi is famous for its work in the ‘Nikka Zaildar’ franchise and ‘Muklawa’, and the audience can’t wait to catch them on the big screen again.

The release date of the movie is yet to be announced.

In June Diljit Dosanjh finally unveiled the title of his upcoming album. Titled ‘Moon Child Era’, this new album of Diljit is one of the much-awaited Punjabi projects. Through this album, the singer has tried to share his deep-rooted emotions with his fans.

Further, the video shoot for the album is done. The release date is yet to be out.

Last month Gippy Grewal also announced the title of his new album - ‘Limited Edition’. Though he too hasn’t unveiled the release date or the number of songs that will be covered under the album, he did share the official poster. From the look of the poster, it seems that the album will have a number of swag-packed songs.

Pankaj Batra directorial ‘Fufad Ji’ went on the floors this month. The movie has Binnu Dhillon, Gurnam Bhullar, Alankrita Sahai, Sidhika Sharma, and Jasmin Bajwa in the lead roles. In the film, both Binnu and Gurnam will be seen playing the role of turban-clad men, and this look of them is being highly lauded by all.

Further, the makers are yet to circle the release date on the calendar.

On one hand, where a lot of filmmakers only announced their new projects and not the release dates, Tarnvir Jagpal Singh unveiled the release date of ‘Yes I Am Student’. Taking to his social media story, Tarnvir shared that ‘Yes I Am Student’ will be released on October 22nd, 2021. The movie will mark the debut of Sidhu Moosewala in Pollywood, and thus, it is one of the much-awaited projects.

Punjabi singer-actor Ranjit Bawa also announced his new movie this June titled ‘Parahuna 2’. Starring Ranjit Bawa and Aditi Sharma in the lead, the movie is Ksshitij Chaudhary’ directorial. It is the sequel to the 2018 released ‘Parahuna’.

Further, though the exact date hasn’t been announced, the movie is expected to be released in 2022.

Gurnam Bhullar made it to the music charts with his latest song ‘Roka’ in June. The song is a beautiful love ballad, which tugged at the heartstrings in no time. Right from the lyrics to the music to the video, every aspect of the song painted the town red.
