Son Of Manjeet Singh: All that you need to know about the movie

There was a time when Punjabi cinema was only associated with the comedy genre, but now Pollywood is welcoming a lot of fresh concepts. Especially the year 2018 is witnessing a lot of content rich and emotion packed movies, and one such film is ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’. Slated to release tomorrow, the movie is about the journey of a son and father; a tale of dreams, aspirations and reality. Now before the movie tomorrow finally hits the theatres, here’s everything you should know about ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’. Enjoy reading:

The producer-director debut

Last year, Kapil Sharma produced his first Bollywood movie ‘Firangi’ and in 2018 with ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’, he is making his debut as a producer in Punjabi cinema. According to him, the concept of the movie touched him so much that he couldn’t wait to go on board with it.

On the same hand, Vikram Grover, who is known for his work as an assistant and associate director in Punjabi comedies like ‘Double D Trouble’, ‘Bhaji In Problem’ and ‘Lucky Di Unlucky Story’, is also making his first move as a full-fledged director with the Gurpreet Ghuggi starrer.

The inspiration behind the subject

In a recent media interaction, the director of the movie Vikram Grover told the press that the idea of ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’ actually came from a Marathi movie ‘Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho’. The director said that the lead star Gurpreet Ghuggi was told by a friend to watch the Mahesh Manjrekar’s directorial. Then Grover and Ghuggi both went to see the movie and loved the idea it presented; thus, decided to work on the same.

Damanpreet Singh: Cricket wasn't my game

Damanpreet Singh is the child artist playing Gurpreet Ghuggi’s son in the movie. In the movie Damanpreet will be seen playing cricket, but when in a recent word with ETimes, the artist said that the gentlemen’s game was never his sport. “I was into hockey, I didn’t know how to play cricket. Thus, I took proper training to learn the game,” said Damanpreet Singh.

The scene that shook the actors

In a no holds barred conversation, Gurpreet Ghuggi and child Damanpreet Singh, spoke to ETimes about the scenes that shook them emotionally.

“Firstly, the scene in which I break my son’s cricket bat was really hard to do. In real life my son plays cricket and I understand the worth a bat holds for the player. So yes, it was hard for me to do. Secondly, I can’t describe the scene to you, but there comes a point in the movie where I doubt on my existence as a father because my son goes through a very tough time. That was a particular situation where I got really emotional.” said Gurpreet Ghuggi.

Talking about the scene that drenched Damanpreet Singh emotionally, the actor said, “I really got too much involved in my character in this movie; as there was so much I could resonate to. Just like in the movie, in real life also, I am a kind of naughty kid, who loves to run around the entire house teasing people. Thus, it came out more like my own story. Now in the movie, when my father breaks my bat and pushes me away that hurt a lot on a sentimental level. Even when the director said cut, I could come out of the zone instantly. It actually took me some time to get out of that scene.”

More than just one message

Though ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’ primarily focuses on the bond of a father and son, and their journey from not understanding one another to finally reaching an equilibrium, there’s a subplot to the movie that might hook the audience. The movie features the Punjabi diva Japji Khaira as well. The actress is essaying the role of a dancer in the film. In an exclusive word with TimesOfIndia.com, Japji spoke about her character and the message it gives through the movie. She said, “Though in the poster I can be seen in a total de-glam avatar, in the trailer you can see all the glam around me. I play a dancer in the film and with my character, the first thing we are trying to establish is that how this particular profession is seen with demeaning eyes. At the same time, the movie tells that there’s more to dancing as a profession and a dancer as an artist than what meets the eye.”
