Independence Day special: Punjabi songs that celebrate the spirit of patriotism

Punjabi tracks are mostly known to be the party starters; the mood lifters. However, the Punjabi music industry has got more than just peppy dance numbers; it has some of the best patriotic songs that can tug at the heartstrings in no time. Today as India proudly enjoys the 72nd Independence Day, let’s have a look at the Punjabi songs that celebrate the spirit of patriotism at its best. Have a look:

2/6

‘Hathyar’

Chronicling the valor of soldiers on the border, ‘Hathyar’ is a must-have song on the Independence Day playlist. The song belongs to the soundtrack of ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’, a biopic based on the true life journey of Subedar Joginder Singh Sahnan, who with a battalion of just 21 Sikh men fought with an army of 1000 Chinese soldiers. The song features the way army men think of nothing but the nation and go on the fronts to save the motherland.

3/6

‘Ae Watan’

“Asi hassde hassde vaar challe aan jaan tere ton….Ae watan sadda har janam kurban tere ton”. These lines simply mean that we are happy to sacrifice our lives for the nation. Only a few people have the gut to say lines like these and even fewer who really mean it. The song ‘Ae Watan’ from ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’ features how our men on the front sacrifice their lives with a smile for the nation. They leave all their happiness, their families, everything behind, just to show their gratitude towards their country.

4/6

‘Sant Sipahi’

Another track that celebrates the valor of men-at-arms is the recently released ‘Sant Sipahi’. The song features how a soldier never backs down from a fight. Irrespective of less headcount in the battalion, soldiers move ahead to pin down the enemies of the nation. Their lives are the least they care about when on a mission. This is what the song is all about.

5/6

‘Mera Desh Mere Dildaran Da’

The living legend Gurdas Maan is known to give some of the best Punjabi melodies of all time, ‘Mera Desh Mere Dildarana Da’ is one of them. The song talks about how beautifully India is a land that belongs to pure souls and loving people. Towards the end, there are lines that say that people want to win this land, but they are equally terrified by the men standing to protect it. In short, ‘Mera Desh Mere Dildaran Da’ is a beautiful melody that tugs at the heartstrings.

6/6

‘Ucchi Teri Shaan Tirangya’

The tri-color national flag of India is something that the nation has earned. This flag today is hosted on free land only because of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. The song ‘Ucchi Teri Shaan Triangya’ records the same sacrifices. Though the song has been composed some peppy beats, the lyrics hold the soul intact.
