Famous Punjabi folk and Sufi singer, Sardool Sikander succumbed to COVID-19 in Chandigarh on February 24 at 11.55 am. Sardool had contracted COVID in December and developed complications from the virus infection and was hospitalised at a multi-specialty hospital in

Mohali

on January 19, and passed away on Wednesday after remaining critical for over a month.
"Mr Sikander was admitted to

Fortis

Mohali on January 19 in a very serious condition with complaints of low oxygen levels. He was diabetic, was recently treated for COVID-19. He had undergone renal transplant in 2016 and Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) in 2003. In spite of the best efforts of the doctors, his condition improved only marginally over the next 3-4 weeks. Due to his severely compromised state of health, his condition deteriorated again and had to be put on life support. Unfortunately,he breathed his last with his family at the bedside," said the hospital spokesperson.
His sons and wife, singer Amar Noori remained besides him till the end.
Amid the news, the entire Punjabi industry poured out its grief at his demise. Gurdas Mann, Diljit Dosanjh, Sukhshinder Shinda, Jazzy B, Neeru Bajwa, Navraj Hans, Guru Randhawa, Happy Raikoti, Karmjit Anmol, Ihana Dhillon, Jasbir Jassi, Miss Pooja, Harshdeep Kaur, among others paid their condolences at this "shocking news".
