Odavum Mudiyadhu Oliyavum Mudiyadhu Movie Review: There's a sense of meta-ness about Odavum Mudiyadhu Oliyavum Mudiyadhu that never lets the audience take it seriously while also making us get behind everything that's transpiring on-screen. The film is one of the very rare instances in Tamil cinema when a horror comedy has been done right.

Ramesh Venkat finds the right balance as he infuses the comedy with the necessary amount of emotional weightage required for the mystery element to unfold. That's not to say that the film is without flaws, for there are a few, including a few jokes that just don't work in this day and age.

But, all in all, the horror comedy is silly and never forgets to embrace its silliness. There's even an instance in the film where one character says to another about making a horror film, and the reply is an interesting quip that comes across as a remark made by the film on itself.

Odavum Mudiyadhu Oliyavum Mudiyadhu might not be an intellectually stimulating or life-changing cinematic experience, but rather, it's a laugh-out-loud movie that does complete justice to both the horror and comedy portions.

The silliness, or rather, the ridiculousness of it all, is exactly what drives the film forward and is also its main selling point. It is content with being a simple, laughable, self-deprecating comedy, and it manages to be just that — nothing more, nothing less.
