Sivakarthikeyan's highly anticipated collaboration with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss, 'Madharasi', seems to be losing its grip at the box office. After a strong opening week, the film saw a noticeable decline in collections as it stepped into its third week.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film enjoyed an excellent start, collecting Rs 49 crore in its first week. This momentum, however, did not sustain in the second week, as 'Madharasi' managed to add only Rs 11.42 crore to its total. The start of the third week saw more drops. On its 15th day, the film collected a mere Rs 29 lakh as per early estimates, marking one of its lowest single-day performances so far. With this, Madharasi's total stands at Rs 60.71 crore.
Theatre occupancy
On September 19, the film registered an overall Tamil occupancy of 22.59 percent. Morning shows recorded 21.90 percent turnout, followed closely by afternoon shows at 21.13 percent. Night shows, traditionally stronger, fared slightly better with 24.75 percent.
The film has been facing stiff competition from new releases and looks to be struggling to maintain occupancy beyond weekends.
About 'Madharasi'
'Madharasi' is about a man battling Fregoli delusion, which is a rare psychological disorder. He finds himself recruited by the NIA for a high-stakes covert mission. The story is set against the backdrop of rampant gun violence and its lasting impact on society.
The film features Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Shabeer Kallarakal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth in key roles.
Anirudh Ravichander composed the tunes of the film.
As per an OTTPlay report, the movie, after its theatrical release, will be streaming on Amazon Prime and is expected to stream from October 3, 2025.
