'Ponniyin Selvan 1' box office collection day 17: Mani Ratnam's film becomes the first Tamil film to reach Rs 200 crores in Tamil Nadu

Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' hit the big screens grandly on September 30, and the historical drama has made some epic collections at the box office. Now, the latest update on the 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' box office collection day 17 is that Mani Ratnam's film has become the first Tamil film to reach Rs 200 crores in Tamil Nadu. 'PS 1' has been getting an immense response from day 1, and the film's positive reviews transformed it into a successful one. The film reportedly grossed over Rs 200 crores at the end of its third week on day 17 (October 16) and evolved as the first film to achieve the grand mark in the state.

The overall collections of 'Ponniyin Selvan' surpassed the 450 crores mark at the end of day 17 to stand close to Rs 460 crore. 'Ponniyin Selvan' becomes the second Tamil film to earn over Rs 450 crores after 'Vikram', but the film has surpassed the Kamal Haasan starrer to stand next only to Rajinikanth's '2.O' collections. The reservations for 'PS 1' is still going strong, and the film is expected to close its theatrical run with a collection of around Rs 500 to 550 crores.

The intensive post-production work for 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' aka 'PS 2' is to begin in November and the film is slated to release in the first half of 2023.
