The historic epic drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ was released in theatres worldwide on September 30. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film has been critically acclaimed and has broken multiple box records in 20 days of its run. The film is now nearing to step into the Rs 450 crore club, and it looks like it will not slow down until the end of the month until the Diwali festival releases.

The movie has reportedly broken the records of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ in Tamil Nadu and has made a gross earning of Rs 50 crore at the US box office. Surpassing ‘Vikram’ which was released in June this year, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ becomes the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022.

The magnum opus film of the ace director was a pan-Indian release in five languages and the makers of the film on October 13 confirmed that the movie made a gross of Rs 400 crore at the box office. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a periodic drama, and the film was made with a high budget of Rs 500 crore and it is now one of the blockbusters of Kollywood.

The movie stars Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha in lead roles and the supporting cast includes Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, and Rahman among others. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman and the cinematography and editing of the film are done by Ravi Varman and Sreekar Prasad respectively.
