Mani Ratnam, the legendary director, has made his dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' in two parts. Following the massive success of 'Ponniyin Selvan 1', the sequel to the historical drama was released in theatres on April 28 to positive reviews. Now, as per the latest report, Mani Ratnam's film has hit Rs. 100 crore in Tamil Nadu. Satisfying the fans, 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' has been grabbing repeated audiences, and the film's box office collection has been strong in the home state right from day 1. The epic historical drama has reportedly grossed over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu, becoming the 15th film to achieve the mark in the state.
Released in multiple Indian languages, 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is also performing well in other states in India, while the film's domestic collection reportedly stood at around Rs 140 crores at the end of day 9. After mounting high on the second Saturday, the worldwide box office collection of 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is said to be around Rs 280 to 285 crores, and the film is set to break into the 300 crore mark soon.
'Ponniyin Selvan 2' looks more powerful than the prequel, and the film has been earning showers of praise from fans and celebrities on social media. Meanwhile, the makers of 'Ponniyin Selvan' are expected to make an official announcement regarding the film's box office soon.
"Ponniyin Selvan," based on Kalki Krishnamoorthy's novel, features Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Shobita, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and Vikram Prabhu, among others, in the main roles, while the film has music scored by AR Rahman.
