'Ponniyin Selvan' box office collection day 5: Mani Ratnam's period drama zooms past Rs 100 crores in Tamil Nadu

Mani Ratnam’s 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' is being received well in Tamil Nadu and overseas. The makers had officially announced that the film collected Rs 200 crores worldwide on the opening weekend of three days. As per the latest reports, the box office collection on the fifth day has crossed Rs 100 crores in Tamil Nadu. The film has been doing well on weekdays too, and the film is gaining more traction in Tamil Nadu with the Ayudha Pooja holidays. The period film has got an average occupancy of over 80% and it made the film gross over Rs 100 crores in its home state.

The overall box office collection of 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' at the end of day 5 stands around Rs 300 crores, and the film heads powerfully to become one of the biggest hits in the history of Tamil cinema. 'Ponniyin Selvan', which is released in five languages, has been doing well in Hindi and Telugu as well. The overseas collection of the film is also strong, and the film is adding some quick numbers in the USA region.

'Ponniyin Selvan' is based on the novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy and talks about the period of the Cholas, and the film has been made in two parts. The first part of the film is now available in theatres across the globe, while the second part is planned to be released in the first half of 2023.
