'Vettaiyan' overall box office collection: Rajnikanth and Amitabh Bachchan's film mints over Rs 250 crore worldwide

'Vettaiyan' starring Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, opened in theatres on October 10, 2024, and has received a strong reception from audiences. After completing its 18-day run, the film has grossed approximately Rs 144.75 crore in India across all languages, with a worldwide collection exceeding Rs 249.5 crore.

The film's performance breakdown in India includes Tamil at Rs 122.46 crore, Telugu at Rs 17.38 crore, Hindi at Rs 4.51 crore, and Kerala at Rs 40 lakh. Additionally, the overseas collection stands at Rs 80.3 crore, bringing the total gross collection in India to about Rs 169.2 crore.

Vettaiyan Movie Review

In its first week, 'Vettaiyan' earned Rs 122.15 crore, followed by Rs 19.25 crore in the second week. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the plot kicks off when Athiyan played by Rajinikanth receives a complaint from a middle-school teacher, about drug abuse among students in classrooms.

Rajinikanth as Athiyan is a senior police officer known for his encounter specialist skills. Meanwhile, there is a conflict between Athiyan's encounter-driven methods and the principles upheld by Justice Sathyadev, played by Amitabh Bachchan, who advocates for human rights and due process.

The cast also includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh in the key roles.

Despite its impressive box office numbers, 'Vettaiyan' did not break any records and currently holds the title for the second-best opening for a Tamil film in 2024, following Vijay's 'GOAT'. The film was produced with a budget of approximately Rs 300 crore budget.

While 'Vettaiyan' has been praised for its action sequences and performances, it has received mixed reviews regarding its storyline and pacing.
