Though the pandemic brought about huge changes in the world, with people getting used to the new normal, the film industry ensured they entertained audiences with their interesting, novel and fine films. Though there were not as many releases as last year owing to the pandemic situation, many films that were released this year, were liked by audiences and critics alike. Here, we list down the top 10 films that wowed audiences this year...

Darbar

The first hit of 2020, Rajinikanth's 'Darbar' saw him in the role of a cop. The AR Murugadoss directorial revolves around a top cop (played by Rajinikanth), who is tasked with ending the drug menace in Mumbai. With Nivetha Thomas, Nayanthara and Suniel Shetty in important roles, this Thalaivar film was all style, mass and class!

Pattas

Dhanush began the year with a bang, with 'Pattas' being a Pongal release. Directed by RS Durai Senthilkumar, the film had Dhanush in a double role - as a petty thief and in a father's role. The film brought to light an ancient Tamil martial artform Adimurai. With Sneha, Mehreen Pirzada and Naveen Chandra in supporting cast, the film opened to good reviews.

Psycho

This psychological thriller film by Mysskin made all the right noises at the box office. Starring Udhyanidhi Stalin in the lead role, the film follows his life as a visually challenged man, who has to save his lover (Aditi Rao Hydari) from a psychopath who has kidnapped her. The film also had Nithya Menen as one of the leads.

Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal

This Dulquer Salmaan, Ritu Varma project took a while to hit the screens, but the love it received was magnanimous. Even Superstar Rajinikanth called the film's director Desingh Periyasamy to say how much he liked the film.The film follows the story of two cons (Dulquer, Rakshan) who fall in love and decide to mend his way and settle down with their girlfriends. But then, things turn upside when they discover there's something more...

Oh My Kadavule

Ashok Selvan, Ritika Singh and Vani Bhojan's 'Oh My Kadavule' turned out to become a blockbuster at the box office. The film opened to positive reviews, and all the actors, too, won praises for their performances. The story is around a young man, who marries his friend without having any romantic feelings for her, only to end up in a family court asking for divorce. But what if he gets a second chance to work things out? A fun ride aided with some peppy music!

Dharala Prabhu

A remake of the hit Hindi film, 'Vicky Donor', Harish Kalyan played the role of a sperm donor in this romantic comedy. With Vivekh in the role of doctor, this faithful remake, added with the right Tamil sensibilities, was loved by the audiences and critics alike. Tanya Hope played the female lead.

Ka Pae Ranasingam

How empathetic are our government bodies when it comes to solving the problem faced by an individual? The film’s lead character, played by the fantastic Aishwarya Rajesh, is faced with a unique problem. Her husband, Ranasingam (Vijay Sethupathi), has died in Dubai, where he had gone for work. But to bring his body back, she needs to prove that she is his wife. Aishwarya was lauded for her stellar performance and the film opened to great reviews from the critics.

Soorari Pottru

Based on Captain GR Gopinath's Simply Fly and 'Stories From The Aviation Industry', Sudha Kongara's film starring Suriya in the lead is an inspiring tale about a common man who dreamt big. Suriya as Nedumaaran Rajangam decides to start a lowcost airline that can be aspirational for even the less privileged. However, Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal), a leader in the aviation industry, tries his best to ensure that this dream doesn't take off. With ample support from his wife (played by the fantastic Aparna Balamurali), and his friends (Vivek Prasanna and Krishnakumar), he realises the dream. The film was received very well by audiences and Suriya fans, too, were happy to see him back in form.

Mookuthi Amman

Deepavali 2020 release, 'Mookuthi Amman', resonated well with the audiences of all kinds. A TV reporter (played by RJ Balaji), who has been gathering evidence to expose a self-styled godman for years, gets help from Goddess Mookuthi Amman (the stunning Nayanthara). How does he utilise the situation and what follows in his life forms the crux.

Andhaghaaram

After much speculation, the film finally released this year and it turned out to be a winner among audiences. Starring Arjun Das, Vinoth Kishan, Kumar Natarajan and Pooja Ramachandran in the lead, this film revolves around the life of a youngster, who is haunted by the voice of a man over telephone and seeks help from a psychiatrist. But little does he know that he, the psychiatrist and a visually challenged librarian whose landline instrument he is now using, share a connection that is beyond surreal.

Apart from Kannum kannum... and a little of soorarai.. Every other film is a big disappointment. There were some scenes in Darbar which had wow moments, but 2020 is a forgetful year even in cinema perspectives.
