15 Years of Oram Po: 5 interesting facts about the Pushkar-Gayatri film

Director duo Pushkar-Gayatri's debut film Oram Po turns 15 today. The film, which starred Arya, Pooja, Lal and John Vijay in the lead roles, is known for its quirky premise and its rooted and fun storytelling. Here are a few interesting trivia from this cult-classic, which was initially titled Auto!

Directors Pushkar and Gayatri had come to know about the concept of street auto races from an auto driver in whose vehicle they were travelling.

To prepare for the role, Arya spent time with actual auto drivers and learnt the tricks of the trade. He also performed most of the auto stunts in the without going for a dupe.

The film marked the pairing up of Arya and Pooja for the second time following their previous work in Ullam Ketume. The chemistry between the two actors is one of the major attractions in the film.

Oram Po had two acclaimed future filmmakers in its crew. The film's dialogue writer is Thiagarajan Kumararaja, who is considered one of the major directors in Tamil cinema. Director Halitha Shameem of Sillu Karupatti fame was part of the direction team and worked as an assistant director.

In addition to the directors, the film marked the debut of popular Bollywood singer Alka Yagnik, who lent her voice to the romantic number Idhu Enna Maayam. This was also the first film of actor John Vijay, who played the antagonist, Son Of Gun.
